There
is beer, and then there are the finely
crafted brews that caress your sense of
smell and taste. Some beer aficionados
don’t care to venture very far from
the path of mass-produced suds. They are
the highly hyped, widely distributed beer
designed for mass appeal. They wont provide
you with much sensory excitement but they
do quench the thirst.
On
the other hand there are thousands of brews
to be found once you decide to look a little
deeper into the world of suds. The BeerAdvocate
web site has been around since 1996. After
a while the authors realized that lots of people
were visiting the site. Now there are thousands
of registered users, not only beer-lovers visit
but also retail stores, bars, restaurants and
the brewing industry as well.
The authors
put it this way. “Taste
is an individual experience. Our comprehensive
reviews represent personal findings based on
industry standard beer style guidelines, while
trying to put aside our personal tastes. We
aim to be concise and to the point in hopes
that everyone, from the drinking impaired to
a master brewer, will understand what we are
tasting. We try to listen to the beer, rather
than over-killing it with poetic adjectives
or a short novel. We describe the beers and
leave the rating part up to you.”
There is far more to be found than just beer
reviews. You may search their database of 581
breweries, worldwide. In a flash you can locate
one and link to their website, if they have
one. You can read reviews of the products once
you register with the site. There is no cost
and the privacy policy is strict, so it says.
Once registered you can send in your own reviews
or look into all the nooks and crannies of
beer related information.
If you like beer or want to learn more about
quaffing the stuff, this site is required reading.
But not right this second. First go get a cold
one, then sit in front of your browser screen
and enjoy both experiences.
