Bausch & Lomb contact lens solution permanently pulled from worldwide markets

Bausch amp; Lomb Inc announced on Monday that it would permanently pull of its contact lens solution ReNu with MoistureLoc from all worldwide markets. lt;br / gt;

The company extended its product recall from the US market stating the increase in the risk of contracting a potentially blinding eye infection. It stated that some part of the MoistureLoc formula might be increasing the relative risk of Fusarium infection. lt;br / gt;
lt;br / gt;
Although initially the product was removed from US markets and some parts of Asian markets, the current recall has been extended even to the countries like China, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. lt;br / gt;

The company initially thought that the fungal infection was a result of a potential contamination in the company 's plant in Greenville, South Carolina. lt;br / gt;
lt;br / gt;
However, according to the Chief Executive of the company, Ronald Zarrella , no evidence of product contamination, tampering, counterfeiting or sterility failure was found, as suspected earlier. Also, the financial impact of the recall is still not estimated by Bausch. lt;br / gt;

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration supported Bausch 's recall of the MoistureLoc brand and is said to be carrying out inspections with respect to this matter. Also it so far did not indicate problems with other Bausch products viz., ReNu MultiPlus or ReNu Multi-Purpose brands. lt;br / gt;

It has been recommended by Bausch that the MoistureLoc consumers switch to ReNu MultiPlus or ReNu Multi-Purpose, as the latter products contain a different formula from that of MoistureLoc. lt;br / gt;
lt;br / gt;
In addition to that, the production of MoistureLoc in different parts of the world will come to a halt and would be shifted to the ReNu MultiPlus and ReNu Multi-Purpose formulas.
