Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan hospitalized

New Delhi - Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan who turned 66 on Saturday was admitted to a hospital in India 's western Mumbai city after he complained of abdominal pain, news reports said. The iconic actor was celebrating his birthday at his residence in the city when he experienced severe pain, family sources told the IANS news agency.
He was rushed to the Nanavati hospital for some tests and was referred to the Lilavati hospital, where he was admitted.
Doctors refused to comment on the exact nature of the illness, the report said.
Crowds that gathered outside his house to wish him happy birthday watched him leave for hospital, news channels reported.
Other local news outlets reported that Bachchan had complained of abdominal cramps on Friday evening after eating spicy food.
The NDTV network quoted doctors saying that the veteran actor might be admitted for up to three weeks.
In November 2005, Bachchan underwent surgery for a bowel ailment at the Lilavati hospital.
Bachchan, popularly known as the Big B, has dominated Indian cinema since he quit his job as a freight broker in Calcutta and joined Bollywood nearly four decades ago.
He has acted in more than 160 films. BBC Online voted him "star of the millenium " above such Hollywood legends as Sir Lawrence Olivier and Charlie Chaplin.
