Baghdad - A least six people were killed and 20 injured Wednesday in a twin-bomb attack outside a bank in Fallujah, the one- time hotbed of Sunni insurgency in western Iraq, according to police. A first bomb explosion outside a bank in central Fallujah, 45 kilometres west of Baghdad, did not cause any casualties. But police and crowds gathering in the area were then hit by a second bomb.
Four policemen and two civilians were killed and 20 injured, reported the Dubai-based al-Arabya news broadcaster citing Iraqi police sources.
Fallujah, the biggest city in Anbar province, has been enjoying a decrease in violence in recent years credited to major US-Iraqi offensives against Sunni insurgents and local clans joining efforts to oust groups affiliated with the al-Qaeda terror network from the province.
Last month, the US military has indefinitely delayed a scheduled transfer of security responsibilities in the province to Iraqi troops, citing bad weather.
