Tokyo stocks open higher on tech shares

Tokyo - Tokyo stocks opened higher Friday as traders picked up recently battered high-tech shares following gains on the US markets. The Nikkei 225 Stock Average rose slightly 173.56 points, or 1.15 per cent, to 15,205.16.

The broader Topix index of all first-section issues was also up 8.08 points, or 0.55 per cent, at 1,465.64.

On currency markets at 9 am (0000 GMT), the dollar was quoted at 113.14-19 yen, down from Thursday 's 5 pm quote of 113.21-23 yen.

The euro was quoted at1.4330-35 dollars, down from Thursday 's 5 pm quote of 1.4369-71 dollars, and at 162.15-20 yen, down from 162.68-72 yen.
