China. While the PTC has had significant ties with Taiwan in the past, this is the first year that the People's Republic of China will be participating--and, significantly, on a ministerial level as well.

Distance learning. As the world grows smaller and small, due in no small part to telecommunications, this year's meeting is placing greater emphasis on development, particularly on ways that the developed world can help "virtually" educate anyone in the developing world with computer access.

Hawaii as a technological center. Tours showing off the islands' technological facilities will be available to conference participants, to encourage them to think of Hawaii as a possible site for their companies' operations.

3G. Pros and cons of the "third generation" of cell phone technology and its potential in Europe, North America and beyond.
