'Celebrity Tap' water launched
Selena Gomez, Rihanna, Taylor Swift and Robin Williams have all donated 'Celebrity Tap' bottles of water to raise awareness of World Water Week. The 'brand' of water has been developed by UNICEF as a parody on expensive designer varieties of mineral water, and despite the fancy design of the bottles, they contain only normal tap water donated by the respective celebrities.
President and CEO of the US fund for UNICEF, Caryl Stern, said: ''Celebrity involvement can highlight the value of safe, clean water, which most of us consume every day without thinking twice. ''It can galvanise the support needed to help children who are forced to gamble with their lives every time they take a drink of water.
''Every day more than 4,000 children die from water-related diseases. Just one dollar provides 40 days of clean drinking water to a child in need.'' UNICEF has also developed a website with suitably tongue-in-cheek descriptions for each of the bottles of water on offer.
A description for Taylor Swift's bottle of water reads: ''Bold. Beautiful. A true American storyteller armed with a pen, guitar and golden curls. ''She brought her country-pop genius to non-famous people around the world, and now she's bringing non famous people Celebrity Tap.''
Every person who donates $5 at the website celebritytap.org will be in with a chance of winning the case of Celebrity Tap waters, and the competition stays open until April 30. All proceeds will go towards UNICEF's clean water programs. World Water Week runs from March 20 to 26.
