Leading Hollywood actress Reese Witherspoon has launched a necklace being sold in aid of campaigns to end domestic violence against women. The Empowerment Circle of Support Necklace is being sold by top cosmetics company Avon.

All net profits from the silvertone necklace will go to Avon's Speak Out Against Domestic Violence campaign. Reese, who is Honorary Chairman and Global Ambassador of the Avon Foundation for Women, says, "It's a shocking reality that one in three women worldwide will experience violence in their lives. It's an unacceptable truth that we must all work to change."

The necklace, which costs $5 (£3.15), includes the symbol for infinity to mark the endless potential of freedom from violence. Each sale raises $3.71 (£2.34) for campaigns to prevent domestic violence.

It can be purchased though Avon representatives in 50 countries or from the Avon website.

The release of the Empowerment Necklace also marks International Women's Day on Thursday 8 March. Speak Out Against Domestic Violence has previously raised a total of almost $40 million (£25million).

The actress, who stars in the 2012 action comedy This Means War, says she is proud to back the campaign and raise awareness of domestic abuse.

She unveiled the necklace at February's 2nd World Conference of Women's Shelters. The Washington DC conference was attended by more than 1,400 delegates from almost 100 countries who aim to alter attitudes to domestic violence.

The Speak Out Against Domestic Violence campaign began eight years ago and aims to increase awareness, education and prevention of domestic violence. It also helps programs that support victims and their families.
