Chantelle Houghton appeared dressed as a salad in London last Thursday (24.03.11) to promote the vegetarian lifestyle. The former 'Big Brother' contestant and model wore only lettuce leaves styled into a dress to front a campaign by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, encouraging the public to stop eating meat.

Scotland will be the first country in the world to measure its waste and recycling not just by weight but by its carbon footprint. Instead of simply weighing what is recycled and what ends up in the tip the new carbon metric will factor in how much carbon was used in producing the rubbish and how much will be saved by recycling it thanks to Zero Waste Scotland.

Josh Duhamel is organising a charity run to raise money for earthquake victims in Japan. The 'Transformers' actor is urging fans to join him on Santa Monica beach in California on Sunday (27.03.11) when he will run two miles for the American Red Cross Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami fund.

A not-for-profit Green Sports Alliance was launched earlier this week by professional sports teams in both America and Canada. Six professional teams, including baseball, football, basketball, soccer and hockey players, came together at the Seattle Safeco sports field to kick off the new green initiative.

Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Slash and Linkin Park are all donating tracks to charity albums for victims of the Japan earthquake and tsunami. Justin will join U2, Bon Jovi and Nicki Minaj, among others, on an album put together by Universal Music, which they aim to have available as a download by the end of the week. All proceeds raised will be donated to the Japanese Red Cross

Supermodel Lily Cole has defended the pricing of her eco-friendly clothing range. The model acknowledges her The North Circular line's garments may appear expensive - with knitwear made out of wool from rescue sheep and hand-knitted, but costing £65 for and hat and a scarf retailing at £110 - but she insisted the costs are in place to ensure workers are not exploited during production.
