BONN--The
Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue at the International
Conference on Freshwater in Bonn serves as the
forum for discussions between representatives of
various interest groups as well as governments
and international organizations.
Such
communication is an important component part
of the Freshwater Conference because it gives
government delegates and representatives
of interest groups the opportunity to work
together to develop recommendations for solving
water problems worldwide. These recommendations
will be presented to the governments and
heads of state that will participate in the
UN summit for Sustainable Development in
September 2002.
Representatives of
non-governmental organizations,
local authorities,
associations, workers'
and trade unions, farmers'
and women's groups,
as well as from the
private sector and
science, are meeting
on Monday, December
3, from 14:30 to 17:30
PM and on Tuesday,
December 4, from 9:30
to 12:30 PM.
The social interest
groups participating
in the conference were
selected by UNED-Forum
UK, an NGO, and are
supported by the German
federal government,
which is hosting the
conference. Over the
past six months, representatives
of these groups have
developed recommendations
for presentation in
Bonn and inclusion
in the discussion process.
Themes of the Multi-Stakeholder
Dialogue include securing
equitable access to
and the sustainable
supply of water to
the poor and strategies
for the sustainable
and equitable management
of water resources.
