This youth life skills program is sending out an appeal to anyone who can help. ANGELS Gate Ranch, Inc. is a 501(c) (3) not for profit organization. They provide transitional living facilities and life skills classes for youth and young adults who are at risk of staying disconnected from society and family. This includes children who are aging out of the foster care system and children from low income families.
In the United States alone, more than 200,000 youth will reach the age of 25 without having successfully transitioned to independent adulthood. These youth are referred to as “disconnected”. Without family or any other dependable adults to rely on for assistance, these young people are, not surprisingly, at high risk of homelessness, joblessness, illness, incarceration, welfare dependency, early childbearing, and sexual and physical victimization. Founder Virginia Coco and her husband Keith created ANGELS Gate Ranch over 4 years ago. Their mission is to provide a safe, nurturing environment in an agricultural setting that cultivates healthy living, family values, team work and life skills to at risk youth and adults needing, guidance, education, love and support. "In our haste to balance budgets we have forgotten that there are children in need of programs to teach them the basic life skills they need to be happy, productive adults. " explains Ms. Coco. "Children are raising children and we must be sure to fill the void in their education. We need to offer support and guidance to those who need it." That's what the ranch does.
ANGELS Gate Ranch uses Equine Assisted Therapy and an extensive Music Program to teach Team Building, Conflict Resolution, Anger Management, Improved Communication, Responsibility, and Self Confidence. Participants receive the support they need to enable them to realize their goals.
As part of the comprehensive life skills program, ANGELS Gate Ranch, Inc. conducts workshops, clinics and extended programs to help develop happy, self confident, critical thinking, productive citizens.
The facility is located just minutes from downtown Marianna, Florida, the city of southern charm! Nestled in the heart of farm country, Angels Gate Ranch, Inc. shares 40 picturesque acres with majestic oak trees, fragrant magnolias, loblolly pines and native wildlife.
To date, Angels Gate Ranch have welcomed 15 individuals into the full time life skills program which opened its doors officially in May of 2008. Seven of their students have graduated the program and are productive, educated citizens. The Ranch has held short workshops for over 156 youth and 95 adults in group coordinated programs utilizing both equine assisted learning exercises and the music program.
