LAUREL, Md., June 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon Wireless has received double
honors from the Alliance for Workplace Excellence, a nonprofit group dedicated
to building and recognizing outstanding workplaces. For the sixth consecutive
year, the Alliance presented Verizon Wireless with its Workplace Excellence
Seal of Approval, which recognizes visionary employers that view workplace
excellence as a strategic business imperative.
The company was also named a 2008 Health & Wellness Trailblazer, an award
initiated to honor employers demonstrating exemplary commitment to the overall
physical and mental health of their workforce.
According to the Alliance, winning employers are selected after a
comprehensive evaluation process by an independent review panel of professors,
Ph.D. students of business, and industrial and organizational psychology and
human resources professionals.
"We applaud Verizon Wireless for realizing that creating a sustained
culture of workplace excellence makes good business sense," said Fiona
Gathright, acting executive director of the Alliance for Workplace Excellence.
"Each of the selected winners strives to raise the bar for workplace
excellence and demonstrates to the business community that workplace
excellence is not just a 'nice thing to do' but is a strategic business
imperative for financial success."

responsibilities.
Verizon Wireless Regional President Tami Erwin said, "As the mother of two
teenagers, I've been fortunate to take advantage of Verizon Wireless'
family-friendly policies which have allowed me and thousands of my fellow
employees to strike the right work/life balance. We're proud to receive this
award recognizing our workplace and our culture. We put a premium on our work

others have recognized it."
