BRUSSELS, September 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- WABCO Holdings Inc.
(NYSE: WBC), (http://www.wabco-auto.com/) one of the world's leading
providers of electronic braking, stability, suspension and transmission
automation systems for heavy duty commercial vehicles, will present its new
telematics technology for trailer original equipment manufacturers and
aftermarket applications at IAA Commercial Vehicles 2008 in Hanover, Germany.
WABCO's state-of-the-art telematics technology will enable operating
efficiency improvements, resulting in significant cost savings for fleet
operators, freight agents and logistics managers.
Suitable for all trailer types and tailored to meet the specific needs of
each customer, WABCO's new telematics technology contains the latest
generation of high performance GPS receiver and quad band GSM modem. All
antennas are integrated into the trailer telematics unit, which significantly
simplifies installation.
Usable all over Europe, WABCO's new trailer telematics system provides
continuous information such as location tracking and tracing, temperature,
door status, tire pressure, load and other technical data. It also integrates
with existing WABCO systems such as electronic braking (Trailer EBS),
suspension control and integrated vehicle tire monitoring (IVTM). Fleet
operators can access all of this information about their trailer from any
location via a simple and easy-to-use internet portal.
"Today's highly competitive transport business demands technology
innovations that further enhance operating efficiency through continuously
improved trailer management," said Nick Rens, WABCO Vice President, Trailer
Systems. "Performing at the industry's leading edge, our new trailer
telematics technology is a complete system that provides vehicle data in real
time. Our passion is to help transport professionals reduce costs while
improving safety and protecting their bottom line."
In the event of any critical situation, such as a cooling system
malfunction, low tire pressure or issues with the trailer braking system,
WABCO's new trailer telematics system alerts the fleet operator who can take
appropriate and timely action such as sending an alarm via text message (SMS)
to the driver.
WABCO's new trailer telematics system also enables optimized maintenance
planning, safely keeping trailers on the road longer, and fleets equipped
with it can potentially benefit from favorable insurance conditions due to
increased theft prevention.
Data processed by WABCO's trailer telematics system can be integrated
into the customer's fleet management software using existing standardized
interfaces. Comprehensive support is provided by WABCO's helpdesk and global
service network, including more than 400 WABCO Service Centers and over 500
WABCO Service Points.
