OJAI, Calif. - (Business Wire) Alarm monitoring provider VoIPAlarm.com has announced that A.P.I. Alarm Monitoring will exclusively offer the VoIPAlarm IP signal transmission service to alarm companies and dealers across Canada. The entire VoIPAlarm platform, including the central server hardware and software, will be duplicated at A.P.I. to offer easy and cost-effective alarm monitoring to Canadian alarm companies whose customers no longer use traditional telephone lines.
Using the VoIPAlarm platform, legacy telephone-based security systems can be monitored using nearly any broadband Internet connection. These alarm systems were originally designed to work only with standard PSTN telephone lines, and are not reliable when connected to Voice-over-IP (VoIP) phone services. VoIPAlarm's modified VoIP hardware and codecs convert the alarm signals into small, simple data packets that can quickly travel through the Internet to the VoIPAlarm servers, and be quickly injected into commonly used monitoring center automation systems. Monitoring center personnel can then view and respond to the alarm signals in the same manner as signals received over telephone lines, with no additional training required. Non-emergency signals can optionally be sent instead to a second receiver at the alarm dealer's office, to allow for the split reporting features relied upon by many companies.
Unlike other IP monitoring solutions, VoIPAlarm is compatible with the two-way voice features present in many alarm systems. The service also adds several Internet-based features to existing alarm systems, including online access to signal histories and alarm notifications via email, SMS, and instant message.
VoIPAlarm works with any alarm system that supports the industry standard Contact ID reporting format. The installation of a VoIPAlarm adapter is required, which is available from ADI stores and easily plugs into the existing telephone wiring of most alarm systems. The alarm systems need no programming changes, and no hardware changes beyond the addition of the adapter.
