Visiting Southwest Idaho Any Season for Any Reason

Year-round adventures, some seasonal, some available anytime, create a vacation that offers value, culture and as little or as much activity as a traveler seeks.

Approximately 150 years ago, southwest Idaho had some of the West’s great mining boomtowns, which can be explored today, complete with historic wooden sidewalks, an old Territorial Jail in Idaho City and ghost towns.
 
Golf, art, wine, food, live theater and gardens are a part of the southwest Idaho landscape. More than 20 golf courses and 20 wineries are available, plus open-air markets and a variety of cuisines. The Idaho Shakespeare Festival performs the bard’s works and other playwrights in a stunning riverfront outdoor theater in Boise. It is an incredible experience to see Broadway musicals at Garden Valley’s Starlight Mountain Theatre. Boise is home to Boise Philharmonic and Opera Idaho as well as several dance companies, including the Trey McIntyre Project, Ballet Idaho, and Idaho Dance Theatre. The Idaho Botanical Garden offers year-round events and is considered a regional destination garden filled with significant and notable plant collections.
 
A variety of adventures await and southwest Idaho offers itineraries for active adventures as well as laid-back vacations for all outdoor enthusiasts. The area appeals to many interests and a year-round escape here means desert exploring, horseback riding, multiple watersports, hiking, skiing and much more. Points of interest are multiple, including an observatory at a state park, museums and heritage and cultural sights.
