New Service Aimed to Recruit and Retain Top Notch Hospital Employees
ARLINGTON, Va., Aug. 4 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Child Care & Education at Virginia Hospital Center, Arlington County's newest child care program, has announced its grand opening for Monday, August 11, 2008. Managed by Bright Horizons Family Solutions, this center is for Virginia Hospital Center employees and members of the community who live or work in Arlington County.
Child Care & Education at Virginia Hospital Center has the capacity to serve 123 children ages 6 weeks through 5 years. The 14,500 square foot center is conveniently located at 601 S. Carlin Springs Road, just off Route 50, in a park-like setting adjacent to the Arlington Urgent Care Center. The teacher to child ratio meets widely recognized national standards of quality as defined by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and the Arlington Virginia Department of Human Services.
Infants & Toddlers: 6 weeks to 2 years Teacher: Child Ratio 1:3
Twos: 2 years to 3 years Teacher: Child Ratio 1:5
Preschool: 3 years to 5 years Teacher: Child Ratio 1:8
A recent study conducted by the Consulting Practice at Bright Horizons shows that 68 percent of parents said that workplace child care was important in their decision to join their employer, and 90 percent of parents say that access to a worksite child care center positively affects their ability to concentrate and be productive at work.
In a hospital environment where the recruitment of nurses, physicians and non-clinical employees is essential, having child care at the workplace makes good business sense. "Virginia Hospital Center has a long tradition of providing exceptional healthcare to our community and we are now pleased to provide high-quality child care and early education to further this tradition," said Michael Malone, Vice President of Administrative Services at Virginia Hospital Center. "When we began to consider ways to recruit and retain top nurses and other healthcare professionals, it became apparent that having child care at the workplace would be a strategic advantage. We are proud to offer exceptional child care grounded in education to help the youngest members of our community grow and thrive."
Child Care & Education at Virginia Hospital Center is designed to meet the care and educational needs of young children, while ensuring their safety. The infant room is for very young children to explore their world in a stimulating, healthy, and safe way with quiet spaces for nurturing. The preschool program provides an exciting environment where children can discover the world through language, math, science, art, movement, and music. Activities for older children will include opportunities to learn about science and healthcare through hands-on learning experiences and special visits from employees at Virginia Hospital Center.
In addition to a safe, secure, and purpose-built facility, the child care center has a dedicated outdoor playground that is specifically designed for young children to explore the many elements of nature, including water, grass and sand areas.
"We are so pleased to open the Child Care & Education at Virginia Hospital Center to help the Hospital meet its objectives in recruiting and retaining top employees and being a resource for working families in the community," said Patricia Berl, Division Vice President, Bright Horizons. "We look forward to partnering with families on their children's journeys of lifelong learning."
