DENVER, Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Marty Sokoler, a veteran broadcast and
cable industry sales executive, joins the Denver Newspaper Agency's
advertising management team this week as vice president of major accounts.
Currently head of his own media consulting firm, the Los Angeles-based
Sokoler brings to the publisher of The Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News a
30-year track record of sales and new product management in major markets.
Harry Whipple, president and CEO of the newspaper agency, said Sokoler's
appointment re-enforces the DNA's commitment to providing a "diversity of
advertising opportunities to its growing customer base, be that print,
electronic or web-based."
Sokoler will report to David Murphy, general manager and chief revenue
officer for the DNA. Murphy praised Sokoler's "history of driving revenue
growth in competitive markets and his reputation for entrepreneurial
development and creating high energy sales teams."
Prior to forming his own company in 2006, Sokoler was vice president and
general manager of Comcast Spotlight in Los Angeles. Earlier assignments
included stints as vice president for western sales for Telepictures Domestic
Distribution, a division of Warner Bros and AOL/Time Warner; and vice
president/general manager, later group vice president, for Lambert Television.
Sokoler described Denver as "a spectacular market with tremendous
opportunities." He acknowledged that the newspaper industry faces
"challenging times in an increasingly competitive media landscape. But with
challenges come opportunities."
He said his broadcast and cable experience will allow him to bring "a
different perspective and expertise to an industry that is evolving in new
ways to meet the challenges of the 21st century."
A native New Yorker, with a bachelor's degree in communications from the
State University of New York (New Paltz), Sokoler is married with two
college-age sons.
