WASHINGTON, June 17 DOL-PA-workers-grant
WASHINGTON, June 17 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The U.S. Department of Labor today announced a $12,431,250 grant to assist approximately 5,000 Pennsylvania workers affected by permanent closures and layoffs throughout the commonwealth. Many of the workers targeted for assistance also have been certified as eligible for Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA).

"This $12.4 million grant will provide helpful re-employment services to Pennsylvanians who need to find new jobs and build a new career path," said Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao.

The grant, awarded to the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry, will provide workers with services not covered under the TAA program, including assessment, career counseling and case management. Services and benefits available to these workers under TAA may include training, job search allowances, relocation allowances and a health coverage tax credit, among others.

Of the total announced today, $5,600,000 will be released initially. Additional funding up to the amount approved will be made available as the state demonstrates a continued need to serve workers affected by these layoffs.

National Emergency Grants are part of the secretary of labor's discretionary fund and are awarded based on a state's ability to meet specific guidelines. For more information, visit www.doleta.gov/NEG.
