BALTIMORE, Aug. 6 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The William E. Proudford Sickle Cell Fund (WEPSCF) is pleased to announce that Dr. Randal Pinkett, former winner of Donald Trump's "The Apprentice" will be the featured speaker at their September 18th fundraiser at the Hippodrome Theatre's M & T Bank Pavilion in Baltimore.
Dr. Pinkett first came to national prominence as the season four winner of "The Apprentice"; however, his accomplishments were many prior to the show. An entrepreneur, author, and community servant, the very gifted Dr. Pinkett is one of the most sought after speakers in the country. Dr. Pinkett is the CEO and Chairman of BCT Partners, a multimillion dollar management, technology and policy consulting firm, which is his fifth venture.
United States Senators Barbara Mikulski, Benjamin Cardin (Maryland) and Thomas Carper (Delaware), U.S. Representatives Elijah E. Cummings and John Sarbanes(Maryland), Former U.S. Representative Kweisi Mfume, State Senator Verna Jones, Maryland State Delegate Shirley Nathan-Pulliam, and Baltimore City Council President Stephanie Rawlings-Blake are among the honorary chairpersons for the event.
The fundraiser will honor the Baltimore Examiner and Delaware's "Dover Post" for their efforts in promoting community awareness of the devastating effects of Sickle Cell disease. The WEPSCF will use proceeds from the fundraiser to support sickle cell programs in the Mid-Atlantic region.
"The recent death of University of Central Florida football player Ereck Plancher, who collapsed during a practice session, underscores once again the need for more awareness and education about sickle cell disease and trait. September is National Sickle Cell Awareness Month, and we will continue to draw attention to the impact this disease has on the lives of sickle cell patients and their families," says Dr. Karen L. Proudford, President of the Fund.
