WHAT:
Mrs. Pittman, or "Mother Ruby" as she is called, is an advisor to many and the matriarch of six generations. Having lived a full life that includes becoming a published poet at the age of 50, Mrs. Pittman spends her days with family and friends who visit her at the nursing home. But it has become increasingly difficult for her to move around the nursing home, where she must get to the dining hall for meals; she also likes to enjoy Bingo and playing cards. Mrs. Pittman's insurance does not cover the cost of a power wheelchair and so she relies on the help of her friends at the center who often loan her their wheelchairs.
To help Mrs. Pittman live the active lifestyle she enjoys, The SCOOTER Store in partnership with the ADL Foundation is donating a power wheelchair to Mrs. Pittman so that she can get around on her own.
The SCOOTER Store, the nation's leading provider of power wheelchairs and scooters, created a Gift of Mobility program in December 2002. Since its inception, the outreach program has worked with organizations all over the world to donate more than $200,000 a year in power wheelchairs, scooters and manual wheelchairs to community service organizations, enabling them to provide freedom, independence and personal dignity to individuals with limited mobility.
