(PRWEB) November 9, 2009 -- “When you write your fiction, tell the truth,” sings Delphi in the title track from her latest release, The Long Countdown. Delphi is the project of singer-songwriter Cheryl Anderson, whose vocal style and music have been compared to the likes of Patti Smith, Leonard Cohen, and Buffy Sainte-Marie. “Truth is an elusive thing,” says Anderson, “and I don’t pretend to know what it is, but through the process of creation we can strive to know it a bit more, rather than depending on another’s interpretation.” Infused with political, spiritual, and psychological grit, the songs featured on The Long Countdown create a sort of sonic thesis—that what we are told is true is often the furthest thing from it. No, the album is not The Matrix rehashed, but pays homage to the themes echoed in Science Fiction. A Literature major and sometime English teacher, Anderson has always delved into the literary world for inspiration, and it is reflected in this collection of poetic songs.
“Our goal in producing this record was to break down previously established barriers in genre, songwriting, and information,” says Josh Reeves, producer and radio talk show host of The Global Reality Show. “You’ll find anthems on this record, you’ll find hip hop, you’ll find ballads and you’ll find blues. It’s not about the type of music Delphi creates, but about the atmosphere that has created the songs.”
With the release of her third full-length recording, Reeves and Anderson decided it was time to take the next step—founding a record label that would liberate musicians whose music is outside those boundaries. So they set up FML Recordings, which is staked to produce local songwriter Jamie Reeves’ 2038: A Message through Time in December. Also featured on The Long Countdown is another FML performer, Adele Martin. “We want to create a cross-genre sonic experience that not only exposes people to new ideas, but also new artists who are going to be making waves in the future,” says Anderson. “We look forward to following this path to fruition, and seeing where it goes.”
