ARLINGTON, Va. - (Business Wire) The Century Council, a national not-for-profit organization funded by distillers, is honoring select Attorneys General and State Legislators who have shown an outstanding commitment to fighting drunk driving and underage drinking. Attorney General Thurbert Baker of Georgia was one of 13 partners to receive the honor for his ongoing dedication to the fight against drunk driving and underage drinking.
According to the 2007 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, past month consumption of alcohol has remained relatively unchanged since 2002. Last year nationwide, 28 percent of youth reported consuming alcohol in the past 30 days. Specifically in Georgia, 25 percent of youth reported consuming alcohol in the past 30 days. Understanding the scope of this national issue, this year’s award recipients joined The Century Council to help educate youth and their parents from middle school to college-aged students about responsible decision-making concerning beverage alcohol.
Attorney General Baker has been a longtime leader and partner in the fight against drunk driving and underage drinking. He has implemented many of The Century Council’s initiatives in his state including: Brandon Silveria Tells His Story; Girl Talk: Choices and Consequences of Underage Drinking; and We Don’t Serve Teens. Also, Attorney General Baker has taped many public service announcements targeting drunk driving and underage drinking that have been distributed throughout Georgia to combat these serious issues.
