TARRYTOWN, New York, November 2 /PRNewswire/ --
- Kevin Eberly Takes Reigns at Rapidly Growing Innovator
- Bringing Doctors to Forefront in Battle Against Obesity
The Center for Medical Weight Loss (http://www.cmwl.com) a three year old
business that is rapidly transforming the weight loss industry by empowering
physicians to help patients fight obesity, today announced it had hired
Weight Watchers veteran Kevin Eberly to serve as its Chief Executive Officer.
The rapidly expanding company currently has 265 weight loss centers
across 42 states and is already the largest network of medical weight loss
providers in the United States. The centers offer customized weight loss
treatments that are administered exclusively by doctors and based on
proprietary programs developed by Dr. Michael Kaplan, a recognized leader in
the emerging field of bariatric medicine.
Mr. Eberly most recently served as Executive Vice President and Head of
North American operations for Weight Watchers International, which included
P&L responsibilities for the U.S., Canada and Mexico, and represented
revenues of $850 million and operating income of $315 million.
Prior to his EVP role, Eberly held senior field operating and business
development positions with Weight Watchers North America and prior to that
was CMO for WeightWatchers.com where he helped take the company from start-up
to the revenue leader in online weight loss. Weight Watchers International
acquired WeightWatchers.com in 2005.
"We're very excited to bring Kevin onboard," said Dr. Michael Kaplan, who
founded the company in 2006 and will continue to serve as medical director of
the centers. "Kevin has the cross-functional knowledge, management skills and
sector expertise required to handle the explosive growth we are experiencing.
Under his leadership we expect to clearly establish our medically supervised
programs as the most effective way for overweight and obese consumers to
accomplish and maintain meaningful weight loss."
"This is an extraordinary opportunity to make a difference in the lives
of millions of people around the world," adds Mr. Eberly. "The Center for
Medical Weight Loss has the ability to dramatically help individuals with
their health, lower health care costs and provide effective results for a
wide range of weight related health problems. Physicians are on the leading
edge of treating conditions caused by overweight, and are in the most
informed position to customize effective and sensible programs for their
patients."
