TEP, UES to Award $145,000 in ''Grants That Make a Difference'' to Charities

TUCSON, Ariz. - (Business Wire) Tucson Electric Power (TEP) and UniSource Energy Services (UES) are now accepting applications from charitable, non-profit organizations seeking funding through the companies Grants That Make a Difference program.

Guidelines and applications were made available June 9 at TEP.com and UESAZ.com. Applications for this competitive program are due by 5 p.m. on Sept. 16. Recipients will be chosen in the fall.

TEP and UES are making a combined total of $145,000 available to non-profit organizations that help people afflicted by homelessness, domestic violence, poverty, child abuse and other social problems. The program is designed to encourage cooperation among charitable groups that provide services in the companies respective service areas to help make the most of limited philanthropic resources.

Grant applications will be reviewed by volunteer committees and scored based on attributes including agency collaboration to enhance service delivery, opportunity to leverage volunteers or other funds, and effectiveness in responding to critical social service needs. Applicants who provide services in multiple counties may need to submit multiple applications.

Grants That Make a Difference was created in 2001 by TEP and later adopted by UES. More information about past recipients and philanthropic giving is available online at TEP.com or UESAZ.com.

The grants are just part of the award-winning community service efforts of TEP, UES and their parent company, UniSource Energy Corporation (NYSE: UNS). The companies provide direct support, in-kind services and volunteers to community groups across Arizona. In 2007, employees joined their families and friends in contributing more than 41,000 volunteer hours to worthy causes throughout the state.
