SUNNYVALE, CA -- 04/30/09 -- TeliaSonera International Carrier, a fully owned affiliate of TeliaSonera AB, the incumbent telecommunications provider in Sweden and Finland and the largest operator in the Nordic and Baltic regions, has selected Infinera (NASDAQ: INFN) to build a new nationwide network in the United States.

TeliaSonera AB provides landline, mobile and broadband services to its customers in Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark and also offers services in the emerging markets of Eastern Europe and Asia, including Russia and Turkey. Its international division, TeliaSonera International Carrier, is one of the leading pan-European wholesale providers of quality cross-border IP, voice and wholesale services. TeliaSonera International Carrier offers services on more than 43,000 kilometers (27,000 miles) of its own fiber optic network throughout the world. In 2008, TeliaSonera AB had net sales of SEK 104 billion or $12.9 billion and its customer base included 135 million subscribers in 20 countries.

TeliaSonera International Carrier is upgrading its nationwide US network and deploying the Infinera DTN in order to support its vision of becoming "the global IP carrier of choice."

Infinera was selected by TeliaSonera International Carrier because Infinera's digital architecture and ease of operation will enable TeliaSonera International Carrier to provide superior flexibility, and improved quality, responsiveness, and service to its customers in the US wholesale market. Regina Donato-Lundgren, Vice President and Head of IP Production in TeliaSonera International Carrier Broadband Services stated, "We are happy to have selected Infinera for TeliaSonera International Carrier's US network. We have undertaken a thorough assessment of options open to us and have been impressed by the strong solution being offered, which allows us to be at the cutting-edge of technological advances in the industry whilst maintaining a competitive cost base and further increasing service levels in our networks."

Infinera CEO Jagdeep Singh said: "We are delighted that a leading-edge company like TeliaSonera has chosen Infinera for this network. This is the latest example of a large, forward-thinking incumbent carrier benefitting from the advantages of Infinera's digital architecture based on large-scale photonic integration."

The Infinera DTN is the first, and still the only, optical networking system powered by photonic integrated circuits. Deployed worldwide in long-haul and metro core networks, the Infinera DTN combines high-capacity DWDM transport, integrated digital bandwidth management, and GMPLS-powered service intelligence in a single platform.
