TUCSON, AZ -- 05/14/08 --
At the BladeSystems Insight Conference here
today, Teak Technologies announced the availability of a new category of
top-of-rack (ToR) AZ-10GE switching solution, the R3000, purpose-built for
orchestrating the performance of distributed and virtualized server and
storage data center applications.
When deployed in an Acceleration Zone, the 20-port R3000 delivers
performance of up to eighty (80) ordinary 10GE links per Rack Unit on an
equivalent basis. Each R3000 AZ-10GE port can be up to 4-times more
efficient in application throughput and latency performance than an
ordinary 10GE port on best-of-breed switches.
"Networks are no longer just about lines and feeds," said Carson Chen, ceo
& chairman of Teak Technologies. "We are excited to launch the R3000 at a
blade sever conference specifically to highlight the growing importance of
network-orchestrated application performance improvements."
"Innovative networking solutions that improve price-performance will allow
organizations to leverage virtualization and multi-core processors to their
economic advantage and drive increasing 10GE adoption rate," said Neil
Rickard, research vice president, Network and Communications at Gartner.
"We are starting to see innovative solutions emerge in this market and are
increasingly focusing our attention on this very important trend."
The R3000: AZ-10GE Top-of-Rack Standalone Switch
Designed as a server- and storage-access switch, the R3000 expands the
Acceleration Zone footprint to a rack-level and may be used in
"top-of-rack," "adjacent-rack," and some "end-of-row" configurations.
The R3000 offers the following capabilities:
Acceleration Zone-10GE Switching Mode: The R3000 is a member of Teak's
growing portfolio of innovative AZ-10GE switching solutions, which
implement a comprehensive suite of cutting-edge algorithms designed for
accelerating applications performance over short- and mid-haul data center
networks. Some of the R3000 technologies include Priority Pause-based flow
control, end-to-end Congestion Notification(s), Protracted Drop, and
inter-hop mechanisms for dynamic Credit-Based Bandwidth Management and
reservation.
High-Performance Ordinary 10GE Switching Mode: In this mode, the R3000
delivers best-in-class non-blocking line-rate, low latency switching
performance.
Simplification via Unified I/O: In the AZ-10GE switching mode, the R3000
delivers optimal performance for throughput, latency and reliability, which
simplifies application I/O connectivity at a rack-level, cabling,
management, and overall network complexity.
Virtualization and Application Mobility Services: The R3000 is ideally
suited in distributed environments that demand mobility of virtualized
applications and software systems images across pooled server and storage
resources on demand.
Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE): The R3000 works with all
standards-based FCoE server and storage end-points and gateways. When
paired with suitable FCoE-capable end-points, the R3000 improves
load-invariant FCoE performance in stringent data center environments.
Access-Layer Virtualizer (ALV): ALV enables the R3000 to serve as a
host-proxy for all server and storage attach points across its ports. The
ALV shrinks the Spanning Tree domain by one level thereby allowing
distribution/core switches full access to R3000 bandwidth.
Applications Acceleration Zone
An Applications Acceleration Zone is to a data center as a "clean room" is
to a semiconductor facility, or an "operating room" to a hospital.
Operationally structured as a network overlay, an Acceleration Zone offers
an isolated environment with tightly controlled levels of prevailing
artifacts that reduce application performance. An Acceleration Zone enables
distributed and virtualized server and storage applications to maintain
their vital performance signs across a unified data center-wide network.
In a historical first, Teak's AZ-10GE technology allows Ethernet to operate
optimally and reliably with full link utilization, no packet loss, and low
latency while ensuring high levels of application availability and
predictability. LANs based on AZ-10GE allow performance-impacting traffic
to cut through all networking artifacts including congestion. Innovative IT
managers substitute AZ-10GE for ordinary 10GE in mission critical
applications with stringent requirements for performance, reliability, and
predictability. AZ-10GE LANs have 4x fewer links -- optimally utilized to
their capacity, consume up to 4x less power, are simpler to manage, and
reduce time-to-profitability.
Scalability
AZ-10GE switching solutions can be deployed everywhere in the data center
-- from within a blade server chassis, to aggregating server and storage
traffic at a rack-level, and then to scaling linearly across the entire
access layer. Innovative Acceleration Zone portals, implemented via Teak's
gateway appliances, also enable applications with ordinary 1GE and 10GE
connectivity to participate in the Acceleration Zone without requiring any
fork-lift upgrades.
Self-Adjusting Performance
An Applications Acceleration Zone self-adjusts to maintain peak performance
at all times while adapting to changes in application traffic mix/volume,
network round-trip time (RTT), network topology, and equipment add/moves.
"Data center networks are set for transformation at a fundamental level,"
said Sanjay Dua, chief marketing officer at Teak Technologies. "A new era
dawns where networks will increasingly orchestrate the performance of
distributed and virtualized server and storage applications thereby
optimizing the very design rules by which they are built. We are delivering
such solutions at commercial-grade quality levels today. As solution
providers, we are enabling our customers in making an evolutionary shift
towards such applications-centric network architectures."
About Teak Technologies
