CHICAGO, IL -- 04/18/08 --
Tapestry announced today an upcoming art
exhibit by emerging artist Jennifer Johnson, titled "Self-Perception."
Tapestry's goal is to expose the community to local artists. Artists have
the opportunity to display their work, and attendees can view the various
pieces of art and enjoy coffee and other drinks in the coffee house area.
The exhibit is a compilation of work the artist, Oak Lawn resident Jennifer
Johnson, has developed over the last three years. The show focuses on the
way the artist views herself, the way others view themselves, and the way
we all feel others view us.
"All the pieces are fiber-based sculptures from various installations,"
said Jennifer Johnson. "My artwork tends to reflect things within my own
life, but my intent is that others will find common ground in the thoughts
and feelings I'm exploring through the work."
"We are excited to have the opportunity to show Jenn's work, because I hope
it will push people out of the confines of how they may have traditionally
thought one can express themselves through art," said Tapestry's Jeremy
Junkin. "Jenn shows a deeply personal side of herself through unique
mediums while challenging the viewer to consider themselves."
The show opens on May 2, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. Visitors can enjoy
refreshments, along with a musical performance by local band These Guys
These Guys. Check out Tapestry on the Internet at
www.tapestrycommunity.org. Jenn's work can also be viewed on Saturday
mornings from 9am - noon or by appointment.
About Tapestry
Tapestry is a Christian organization on the North Side of Chicago looking
to support the arts in all forms. Our hope is to give new and upcoming
artists, musicians, performers, etc. an opportunity to showcase their
talents in our space. Each month we feature a new artist in our coffee
house area. That artist has the opportunity to have an opening and make
their work available for sale. We are pleased to be able to provide a
venue that can expose our community to local artists as well as give those
artists an opportunity to connect with an audience and network with one
another. We are located at 3824 West Irving Park Road in Chicago. We'd
love to have you join us for any of our upcoming events. Feel free to
contact Jeremy Junkin at jeremyjunkin@gmail.com for more information.
