AUSTIN, Texas - (Business Wire) Surgient, the leader in management software for internal enterprise clouds, today announced a series of milestones demonstrating the company’s continued leadership in virtualization management and cloud automation. Surgient added to its existing suite of recognized innovations with a newly granted patent on the, “Creation and Management of Federated Virtual Server Clouds.” Additionally, three separate organizations honored Surgient for being among the fastest growing and most successful technology companies. Surgient has long been a leader in providing infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) through its purpose-built, seventh-generation cloud automation platform. With the Surgient Platform, global 2000 IT organizations and managed services providers (MSPs) quickly implement and manage successful private and internal clouds, maximizing existing IT resources and driving capital and operating cost savings for the enterprise.
The typical private cloud powered by Surgient includes: 2 TB pooled RAM, 40 physical servers running at 75-95 percent utilization, thousands of VMs with hundreds provisioned daily, 3,000 supported users and just 4 administrators.
Awarded Patent Demonstrates Company Innovation in Cloud Computing
The U.S. Patent office recently recognized Surgient’s technology leadership with a new patent that defines the creation and management of federated virtual server clouds:
U.S. Patent #7,574,496 (Issued 8/11/09)
Federated Virtual Server Cloud Management: Creation and Management of Federated Virtual Server Clouds—Defining Inter-Cloud, Extra-Cloud, Super/Sub Cloud and Exchange Cloud Architectures
This expands Surgient’s existing suite of cloud automation patents, which describe the “creation and management of a pool or ‘cloud’ of virtualized infrastructure” and “virtual server cloud dynamic resource management.”
“This latest patent reinforces our technology and thought leadership in the virtualization and cloud automation markets,” said Tim Lucas, CEO at Surgient. “Additionally, we are grateful to our customers for enabling us to grow as rapidly as we have, and we remain committed to driving innovation in IT service and infrastructure delivery to meet the increasingly complex needs of global 2000 organizations.”
Surgient has provided its patented cloud automation software to more than 70 customers and implemented upwards of 150 private and internal clouds since 2003. In doing so, Surgient has help these organizations realize, on average:
- An 8X reduction in operating expense per VM;
- A 75 percent reduction in initial capital investment;
- A 4X increase in business agility (data center turns); and
- An implementation timeframe of less than 30 days.
“Since deploying the Surgient Platform to manage our internal training cloud, we have dramatically reduced the cost and operational impact of delivering dynamic, self-service infrastructure to our customers, partners and employees,” said Linda Butchko, Professional Development Services Team Lead at Callidus. “The ease-of-use, streamlined administration and rapid ROI made Surgient the natural choice for our cloud automation initiative.”
