SOUTH WINDSOR, Conn., July 1 /PRNewswire/ -- UTC Power, a United
Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX) company, today announced it will supply St.
Helena Hospital in California's Napa Valley with its new, next-generation fuel
cell, the PureCell(R) Model 400 system, which will be in full production in
the summer of 2009.
St. Helena Hospital is a 181-bed full-service community hospital and part
of Adventist Health, a not-for-profit health care system operating in
California, Hawaii, Oregon and Washington.
The UTC Power fuel cell will provide St. Helena Hospital with 400
kilowatts of continuous, clean power. Fuel cells are one of the cleanest and
quietest power-generating technologies in the world today. Also highly energy
efficient, fuel cells produce electricity, heat and water electrochemically.
The waste heat that is a natural byproduct of the fuel cell process will
be used to supply hot water and space heating for three of the hospital's
buildings. This will allow St. Helena Hospital to reduce its burden on the
power grid, minimize the operation of existing mechanical systems and reduce
its impact on the environment.
The hospital's fuel cell was partially funded by a grant from the
California Self Generation Incentive Program (SGIP). The California SGIP
provides financial incentives for the installation of new, clean, and
energy-efficient on-site distributed generation
