MIAMI - (Business Wire) Southern Wine & Spirits of America, Inc., the nation’s leading wine and spirits distributor, is pleased to announce its continued support of the local non-profit SoBe Sober initiative in South Florida for the 2009-2010 school year. For the second year, Southern Wine & Spirits has committed to help prevent underage drinking among South Florida’s youth.

“We are honored once again to support the work of the SoBe Sober campaign in South Florida,” said Wayne E. Chaplin, President and Chief Operating Officer of Southern Wine & Spirits of America, Inc. “Preventing underage consumption of alcohol is an important part of our corporate social responsibility program and my father, Harvey R. Chaplin, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, and I—along with the entire Southern Florida Team—fully support the educational and community outreach that SoBe Sober offers South Florida’s youth.”

The “SoBe Sober” campaign began in early 2009, led by D-FY-IT’s Executive Director Barbara Zohlman. SoBe Sober targets both middle- and high-school-level students and is designed to combat underage drinking among Miami Dade and Broward County students through education, outreach and celebrity sponsorship programs. The initiative engages the community through public service advertising and peer-to-peer communication—and by encouraging underage students to enjoy a healthy, productive, alcohol-free lifestyle throughout the year.

“We are fortunate to have the support of Southern Wine & Spirits of America again this year,” said Zohlman. “We look forward to working closely with them—as well as parents, public school officials, and civic leaders throughout South Florida—to continue to make SoBe Sober a comprehensive program, dedicated to the health and the safe celebration of our youth.” Complete information about SoBe Sober can be found at www.sobesober.org.

SoBe Sober is a trademarked social marketing campaign that focuses on bringing awareness of the dangers of underage and binge drinking to students and parents in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. Originally established in Miami-Dade County four years ago, SoBe Sober has partnered with Southern Wine & Spirits over the last two school years to expand its efforts beyond its original focus of curbing underage drinking during Spring Break; SoBe Sober now also targets other traditional school calendar events (e.g., prom and homecoming) for its message and outreach activities.
