The Helix is a breakthrough in cardio fitness equipment featuring lateral (or side-to-side) movement that targets inner/outer thighs, glutes and core. A breath of fresh air, says celebrity trainer Gunnar Peterson.

November 9, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Skiers looking to get the edge on the mountains this season are training on a breakthrough cardio-strength training system called the Helix. Simulating natural ski movement, the Helix moves laterally or side-to-side, unlike most cardiovascular machines that only move forward-to-back. Training laterally strengthens the inner/outer thighs and core muscles as it boosts cardiovascular endurance, key conditioning skiers need to excel and stay safe on the slopes.

Over time, exercising on equipment that only moves forward-to-back can lead to muscular imbalances, limited joint range of motion and repetitive use injuries. Skiing and other cold weather sports, as well as daily living activities require lateral or side-to-side movement. This is a direction leading fitness educators refer to as "the forgotten plane of motion."

"Adding a unique product like the Helix to my gym at this stage of the game is a breath of fresh air," says Beverly Hills-based celebrity trainer Gunnar Peterson.

Weight loss consumers and fitness enthusiasts alike are drawn to the rare fusion of cardio and strength training found in one simple machine. The exclusive patented design engages the entire lower body with special emphasis on the core, the inner and outer thighs and gluteal muscles. Workouts become much more efficient by burning more calories in less time. Additionally, legs and glutes become more toned and lifted, a goal desired by most.

"Joint pain and knee injuries are the most common complaints," says Brian Barkwell, a physical therapist in Boston. "The Helix strengthens the hips, which plays a direct role in keeping the knees healthy and pain-free. It's also an excellent rehabilitation tool for patients recovering from knee, hip and low back injuries."

How The Helix Works
Standing on the foot pedals positioned in a demi-squat, legs move side to side creating a figure eight-like pattern. The intuitive movement resembles skiing and other sports that require lateral activity (i.e., hockey, tennis, soccer, etc.). The intensity can be accelerated or decelerated through increasing and decreasing resistance levels or by adjusting cadence. An integrated heart rate monitor tracks target heart rate zones and calories burned.

From Boston to Los Angeles, the Helix is gaining widespread attention by leading health clubs seeking to implement novel group fitness classes and sports-specific training sessions for their members. The Helix can also be found at physical therapy and chiropractic care centers.
