Alyssa Anjelica James will perform songs off her latest album “Within” at Genghis Cohen Hollywood, California on Saturday, November 28.
(PRWEB) November 10, 2009 -- Independent singer and songwriter Alyssa Anjelica James will perform live at Genghis Cohen in Hollywood on Saturday, November 28. Alyssa will perform hits off of her latest album “Within,” as well as songs from her EP “Flow With Me.” The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $7 with a one drink minimum.
“I have new songs to share and I love the intimacy of this place it allows me to speak directly to my audience,” Alyssa says.
"Within” is Alyssa’s first full length CD. Written over a period of many years, the album’s melodies and lyrics came to Alyssa in pieces over time. Some, such as “Firefly” and “Feel The Softness,” were born of her poems. Her determination to keep the music candid and authentic is manifest throughout the album, which opens with “Earth Child,” a song inspired by chanting OM in yoga class and by Alyssa’s love of nature.
Alyssa’s outspoken concern for and love of the environment makes her stand apart in the music industry. In the July/August issue of Sierra Magazine, author Avital Binshtock named Alyssa a Vocal Activist, writing “(Within’s) folksy tracks express reverence and worry for the natural world.” Binshtock also highlights the fact that the CD jacket is both recycled and plastic-free.
Alyssa recently performed at the 2009 Malibu Music Awards ceremony, where she received an award for her song “Feel The Softness” which took first place for Ambient Music.
Overall, Alyssa’s fresh, ethereal sound coupled with the intimacy and tenderness of her vocal delivery makes “Within” a personal listening experience.
“To me these songs have a bittersweet sound that breaks my heart; a bittersweet chocolate sound so full and rich. I love this music. It takes me away. It is my meditation in song,” Alyssa says.
