ST. LOUIS, Feb. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Every Step Counts Organization in association with Clear Channel Communications and St. Louis Community College - Forest Park will continue its efforts to celebrate survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. The organization will host "Walk In Her Shoes" 2008, a unique designer shoe fashion show, in two US cities -- St. Louis and Atlanta. Designer shoes featured in "Walk In Her Shoes" 2007 included Guiseppe Zanotti, Tory Burch, LuLu Guinness, Beverly Feldman, Rupert Sanderson, Bettye Muller, Claudia Ciuti, Sergio Rossi and Luichiny. The St. Louis show will be held at the Mildred Bastian Center for Performing Arts Theatre August 16, 2008. Details for the Atlanta "Walk In Her Shoes" will be released soon. The fundraising event was created to increase awareness of domestic violence and sexual abuse and celebrate the lives of survivors as they move from victim to victory.
"While relationship violence is the single largest cause of injury to women in the United States, this event celebrates the lives of individuals who have survived domestic violence and sexual assault. We hope to encourage thousands of women across the nation who still suffer in silence and have lost their self-respect and self-esteem as a result of domestic and/or sexual assault. I spent the first half of my life living as a victim and now I live as survivor and I want to help other survivors reclaim their lives," said Madeline Gill, founder of Every Step Counts.
"I know the feelings of despair and shame that are associated with sexual abuse and domestic violence," said Cherilyn, a 34-year-old survivor who participated in the "Walk In Her Shoes" 2007 event. "'Walk In Her Shoes' shows the world that we are not all statistics. We can rebuild our lives and let women who may be going through the same thing know that there is hope. If I can stand tall in a pair of designer heels or even my flats, then they can too."
