Seoul Metropolitan Government promotes Asia travel with launch of “Sell Your Seoul” social media campaign
Hong Kong (PRWEB) November 24, 2009 -- The Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) today rolls out a digital campaign, themed “Sell Your Seoul”, to promote South Korea’s capital city, Seoul, as a tourism and stopover destination. This campaign offers the opportunity to win free trips to Korea for travelers that are willing to blog and video document the offbeat cultural experiences planned for them. Targeted to the U.S. audience, the campaign aims to raise interest in Asia travel amongst American business and recreational travelers by tapping into the fan-bases of popular American bloggers and micro-bloggers. The campaign includes a Sell Your Seoul Website, job listings on communal listing websites like Craigslist, and a word of mouth marketing strategy in online communities like Twitter and Facebook.
The campaign asks internet users to nominate and vote for their favorite blogger to win free trips to Korea whereby the winning blogger will provide blogs entries, photos, and videos of their daily activities while in Seoul. The bloggers will be chosen based on their personality, popularity, creativity, and interest level in Asia travel.
The "Sell Your Seoul" campaign launched today and will run to the end of January, with the first winning blogger, Brendan Ross, already chosen and set for travel to Seoul. Ross describes himself as a “writer, blogger, experiential traveler...and soon-to-be Air Traffic Controller,” and has over 3,000 followers on Twitter. He recently gained a lot of exposure by flying on 72 consecutive flights with JetBlue’s unlimited flight pass, while Wired.com hosted his experience and dubbed him The Terminal Man.
Campaign strategist and Strategic Planning Director of wwwins Hong Kong, Brandon Cheung, says, “We saw an opportunity to tap into a massive user base of hyper-attentive individuals in the blogging and micro-blogging space. We knew that if we proposed the right value exchange to these potential travelers, in this case a free trip to Seoul for their time, energy, and brief moment of fame, the response from the community would naturally come. Our goal is to make Seoul feel closer to home for the U.S. audience, and there’s no better way to do that than to bring your entire social media community with you.”
