CONCORD, Mass. - (Business Wire) Illume Software, a developer of location-critical software solutions, announced today that a group of outstanding business, political, financial and technology leaders have joined its Board of Advisors. The board includes former South Dakota Senator and U.S. Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle and former Nebraska Governor and Senator Bob Kerrey, as well as prominent business and community leaders Fay Vincent, former commissioner of Major League Baseball, Leo Hindery, Jr., managing partner of InterMedia Partners, Frank Farrell, founding partner of Bentley & Farrell, and Joe Sheehan, president of Analytical Graphics, Inc. (AGI). This influential group has joined the Illume Software Board of Advisors to support the upcoming launch of Illume's flagship product, iZUP™, a new mobile solution to reduce cell phone-related distracted driving.
“We must act now to stop cell phone-related distracted driving as this deadly habit is not going to go away,” commented Senator Daschle. "It is our responsibility to ensure our nation's roadways are safe for everyone. Solutions like iZUP are a key element of tackling the core of this problem.”
“I am pleased to be part of this effort to reshape Americans’ cell phone behaviors behind the wheel and create a future where legislation and technology work together for mobile phones to be used smartly and safely,” said Senator Kerrey.
“Technology is just one step toward curbing cell phone use while driving. Education and legislation are also important factors,” said Matthew I. Growney, CEO of Illume Software. “We are working with our Board of Advisors to bring these influences together to positively affect driving in our communities. Our Advisory Board members are dedicated community leaders who are working tirelessly to improve the safety of our nation's roadways and they recognize iZUP as a responsible solution to the problems associated with distracted driving.”
iZUP will be available as a free preview version next month and will launch officially in December on Windows Mobile, Google Android, and BlackBerry handsets. Built upon unique, patent-pending technology, iZUP leverages GPS and its proprietary control server architecture to determine if a person is driving and other consumer characteristics. While driving, incoming calls are sent to voice mail and text messages are held until the vehicle stops and a driver can read and respond to them safely. iZUP also prevents outgoing communication while driving, yet always allows emergency calls to 9-1-1 and communication between authorized numbers, such as a parent’s cell phone. For parents of teen drivers, businesses and anyone else concerned about the dangers of texting or talking while driving, iZUP offers a smart, simple solution.
