Martin Sheen and Roseanne Barr Endorse Cindy Sheehan For Congress SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 28
SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Sean Penn, a San Francisco
resident, Academy Award and Golden Globe winning actor and director, and star
of the film "Milk," a biopic of the life and assassination of San Francisco
supervisor and gay rights leader Harvey Milk, will escort activist and San
Francisco Congressional Candidate Cindy Sheehan to the film's San Francisco
release at the Castro theater tonight.
Like Sheehan, Penn is a long-time critic of the Bush administration and
its handling of the Iraq war. His political activism has included a tour of
Iraq and travel to post-Katrina New Orleans. On October 4, Penn hosted a
fundraiser for Sheehan at his San Francisco home that raised more than $5,000
for her campaign.
Celebrated actors and activists Martin Sheen and Roseanne Barr have also
each recently endorsed Cindy Sheehan who is currently running as an
Independent candidate in California's 8th Congressional District race against
incumbent Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).
Martin Sheen is a tireless peace and political activist who has advocated
on behalf of progressive causes and candidates for decades, including the farm
workers movement, civil rights, animal rights and immigration. A visible
opponent of the war in Iraq, immigrant issues and fair labor, Sheen visited
Sheehan at "Camp Casey" in 2005. Sheen is a Golden Globe and Emmy Award
winning actor, whose long list of credits includes the role of fictional
Democratic President Josiah Bartlet in the much-heralded NBC political drama
series, "The West Wing."
Comedian and outspoken blogger Roseanne Barr is an Emmy Award winning
comedian, actress and writer, whose successful standup act led to her own
long-running ABC series, "Roseanne." On October 14, Barr moderated a panel
discussion addressing the need for media reform at the Brava Theatre for
Sheehan on October 14, along with guests Dennis Bernstein of KPFA, Miguel
Molina of KPFA, and Peter Philips of Project Censored.
"These immensely talented individuals have used their success and
celebrity to draw attention to issues that are important to this state and to
this country," said Sheehan. "I am deeply honored by their support and their
confidence in my candidacy."
