RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, CA -- 04/03/08 --
SAVICE, a non-profit
organization dedicated to funding education for underprivileged Vietnamese
children, today announced its Second Annual Charity Golf Classic
tournament. The event takes place May 5, 2008 at the prestigious, private
Dove Canyon Country Club Golf Course in South Orange County, Calif.
Proceeds benefit a worthy cause for children, creating educational
opportunities as an alternative to life without education. For sponsorship
or golf registration please visit

"Last year's event was a great success -- raising more than $80,000 to fund
the building of one school, two additional classrooms at an existing school
and the education of 477 Vietnamese children who would otherwise be unable
to attend school. With this year's tournament we are hoping to raise in
excess of $100,000, which will allow us to build six much-needed classrooms
and send 400 children to school," said Phu Hoang, co-founder of SAVICE and
CEO of Virtium Technology. "But we can only reach these ambitious goals
with community involvement. By committing your dollars as a golfer or a
sponsor, you will enable a Vietnamese child to remain in school to further
their education and better their lives in the process. Come join us for a
fun and rewarding day of golf that can truly make a difference in a child's
life."
All proceeds from this fundraising event will benefit underprivileged
Vietnamese children who are in need of educational support for the
2008-2009 school year. Approximately 33 percent of Vietnam's 83.6 million
people are under the age of fifteen, which places a serious burden on the
country's educational system. Primary education is free from the first
through fifth grades, but many Vietnamese students end their educations
just as they should be moving on to secondary school. In fact, Global
Ministries reports that over half of the country's students do not move on
to secondary school even when society encourages all children to continue
their education through high school.
"My brother and I currently live with our grandmother while my father seeks
daily work in a big city to support our family. Just recently he was too
sick to work so, despite our grandma's old age, she began working on a farm
to support us," said Nguyen Kha Lin, a 2007 SAVICE Scholarship recipient
from Long Thoi. "When we got word that we were both receiving financial
support from SAVICE for the coming school year, we hugged each other with
tears of joy in our eyes. Many thanks to this wonderful organization which
has brought hope and opportunity into our lives."
SAVICE's Second Annual Charity Golf Classic is designed for golfers of all
playing abilities, who will compete for awards and prizes in a scramble
format. Corporate and individual sponsorships are available now (starting
at $500 and $100, respectively), and include promotional consideration from
now through the tournament. SAVICE founders will match sponsorship dollars
up to $50,000, working to assure assistance to as many children as
possible.
"The Vietnamese-American community has contributed greatly to the success
of American businesses for decades. This is primarily evident in Orange
County, where many of these hardworking people are playing key roles in or
running their own companies," added Hoang. "It is our hope that American
business owners who are successful due in part to the contribution of
hard-working Vietnamese people within their companies will take this
opportunity to give back to those in need, doing what they can to create
another generation of well-educated contributors to society."
Tournament day includes a raffle for the latest in golf equipment and golf
foursomes at premier local courses, as well as longest drive and closest to
the pin contests and a $10,000 hole-in-one prize. Lunch and registration
begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by a 12:30 p.m. shotgun tournament start.
Cocktails, dinner and awards follow at 5:30 p.m. Non-golfers and
volunteers are welcome, and can support SAVICE by attending dinner and
offering their involvement throughout the event.
In 2007, SAVICE awarded scholarships to 477 student in more than 40
locations within Vietnam. These funds, as well as the overall cost of
establishing the SAVICE organization itself, were donated by SAVICE's
founders. Administrative costs for the distribution of funds were fully
provided by volunteers.
