SANTA CRUZ, CA -- 10/15/08 -- This Fall, the Santa Cruz Community will be presented with a pivotal opportunity for healing and inspiration. Survivors Healing Center invites you to attend an extraordinarily powerful event focused on the "Art of Healing." In the "Art of Healing," survivors of childhood sexual abuse and their allies share, through the arts, aspects of their journey along the path of healing toward peace. The artists are both professional and amateur and a full spectrum of creativity will be shared. The "Art of Healing" is a testament to the strength, determination and dignity of survivors as they reach inward to heal that which is hurt inside and outward to what is hurt in the world.

To celebrate the fifteenth anniversary of this remarkably empowering and profoundly moving event, Survivors Healing Center has expanded the reach and scale of the event, moved to one of Santa Cruz's most popular galleries and brought in some old family and invited new friends to help spread awareness and support healing.

The Mill, a beautiful and spacious gallery located in Santa Cruz at 131 Front Street, will play host to this year's art show, as well as a weekend of performance events, festivities and gatherings. The exhibit will run from Thursday, November 6th - Saturday, November 29th, 10:00am - 5:00pm.

Thursday, November 6th, 7:00 - 9:30pm, join us for "Healing Words," a special gala evening benefit featuring poetry readings from Survivors Healing Center Co-Founder and nationally acclaimed Poet, Ellen Bass. Also joining Ellen are poets Gary Young and Danusha Lameris. Music by Legal Jazz, a three-piece jazz ensemble led by Dana Scruggs, local attorney and advocate for survivors, will perform during the wine reception. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased online by visiting http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/45795. Tickets can also be reserved by contacting 831 423-7601 or visiting www.survivorshealingcenter.org.

Friday evening, November 7th, the always powerful visual arts component of "The Art of Healing" opens with an exhibition of works by survivors and advocates. Included in the popular "First Friday Art Tour," the artists' reception will take place from 6:30 - 8:30pm. Free event.

Saturday evening, November 8th, 6:30 - 9:30pm, Survivors Healing Center presents an Expressive Arts Evening, survivors and allies perform their stories of healing through dance, music, drama, poetry and prose. Sliding-Scale donation.

This event has always been a deep and transformative experience for the participants and audience alike. This year's program is certain to be extraordinary! We hope you will join us!
