® flash memory cards swept performance ratings in seven of the current top professional-level digital single lens reflex cameras from Canon and Nikon, according to the latest tests conducted by Rob Galbraith, renowned imaging consultant, digital photography trainer and photojournalist. The SanDisk Extreme CompactFlash
® and SD
™ cards outperformed all competitors in the tests.
Galbraith, who offers the results on his website, www.robgalbraith.com, tested multiple brands, models and capacities of memory cards with each camera to determine the fastest write times. He measured speeds involving both JPEG and RAW images and, in six camera models that use CompactFlash cards, the SanDisk Extreme Ducati CompactFlash Card took the top honors. Named after Ducati Corse, the Italian manufacturer of high-performance motorcycles, the SanDisk Ducati line was introduced last summer and is the fastest CompactFlash card that SanDisk produces.
“These results from a prestigious independent imaging lab not only validate SanDisk’s Extreme cards as the best performing memory cards, but also clearly demonstrate that there are measurable speed differences between brands,” said Susan Park, director of consumer product marketing for SanDisk’s performance cards. “Also, the tests show that the new DSLR cameras are achieving higher processing speeds, which means that consumers are more likely to capture a candid moment or a fast-moving subject if they use a card with optimal write performance.”
According to IDC's digital imaging research, Canon and Nikon together represent over 80 percent of the 2007 digital single-lens reflex camera market worldwide. “The cameras used in Rob Galbraith’s tests benefit the most from high speed memory cards,” said Christopher Chute, IDC research manager for the Worldwide Digital Imaging Practice. “Professionals rely on high performance equipment like these cameras for their livelihood, and memory card speed and reliability are critical to capturing the right image.”
