WESTON, Fla. - (Business Wire) Ultimate Software (Nasdaq:ULTI), a leading provider of end-to-end strategic human resources, payroll, and talent management solutions, announced today that the San Diego Convention Center Corporation (SDCCC) has unified its human capital management (HCM) processes, improved performance management practices, and streamlined talent acquisition with Ultimate Softwares UltiPro, delivered through software-as-a-service (SaaS).

Like many organizations, SDCCC had purchased multiple HR and employee management solutions over the years as different needs arose. In 2006, HR leaders found themselves with a half dozen different solutions to handle human resources, payroll, talent management, and time and attendance. With numerous applicationsand only some of them integratedthe convention center was plagued with redundancies, inefficiencies, reporting difficulties, and data integrity issues.

HR executives at SDCCC sought a new vendor to deliver more sophisticated functionality than their combined vendors offered, with the added benefit of an integrated solution with one single-source provider to contact for customer service. They wanted Web access for administrators, managers, and employees, and they didnt want to task internal IT resources with additional solutions to support or new headcount requirements to manage the software and necessary hardware. In March 2008, they found the answer in Ultimate Softwares UltiPro, delivered through SaaS.

Prior to UltiPro, the multiple solutions we usedalong with the different custom interfaces we createdwere like a house of cards that we feared could fall at any time, said Thomas Mazzocco, vice president of human resources/labor relations for the San Diego Convention Center Corporation. Now, rather than having disparate systems, providers, and databases for HR management, our HR operations are much more effective and efficient with one vendor that has the technology to provide a comprehensive HR feature-set with software-as-a-service convenience. Ultimate Software has given me the peace of mind of knowing that I have one provider centralizing our employee-related information.

Managing, marketing, and maintaining the citys convention center, SDCCC has employees in many various roles. Its no small task to evaluate, develop, and retain the convention centers varied workforce. Before UltiPro, the center was using a standalone solution that required printed performance reviews. With UltiPro Performance Management, employees start the appraisal process with online self-assessments and the appraisal moves automatically from employee to manager to HR/payroll approver securely through workflow, creating a smooth, consistent process throughout the organization. In 2008, the convention centers annual performance evaluation process for supervisors and managers was completed faster than ever before with UltiPro.

Using UltiPro, we completed our leadership performance appraisal process in record time. When you use paper, the manual process slows things down and review forms may get lost or misplaced. With UltiPro, the process is much faster and confidentiality is ensured, said Mazzocco. UltiPro has also added value with new automated talent management tools like self-appraisals that have been embraced by everyone.

Another paper-intensive responsibility for many HR departments is talent acquisition. Since migrating to UltiPro Recruitment, SDCCC has decreased its time to hire by 30 to 50 percent, significantly cut the organizations dependence on paper, and made it easier for the HR team to comply with union requirements in conjunction with Ultimate Softwares Employee Relations functionality that tracks disciplinary history for SDCCC.

As specified by union rules, we need to notify certain senior employees in good standing about vacancies so they can apply if they want to. When positions open, UltiPro Recruitment and UltiPro Employee Relations help us quickly identify the people who qualify so we stay in compliance, said Mazzocco.

According to Mazzocco, from a cross-organizational standpoint, UltiPro has made a huge difference in reducing the organizations use of paper, cutting costs while also contributing to environmentally friendly business practices. Before UltiPro, we used reams of paper in HR, and now we use a fraction of that to print, handle, and store forms. We feel good about taking this step to protect the environment. It fits with our overall commitment to conservation, for which we have received numerous awards in the past several years.

With UltiPro, SDCCC has one holistic solution to maximize the efficiency of HR across multiple areas such as recruitment and performance management, while positively impacting the productivity of its workforce, said Greg Swick, chief sales officer for Ultimate Software. Its gratifying to know that our solution is delivering measurable business improvements to our customers.
