DALLAS - (Business Wire) Samsung Telecommunications America (Samsung Mobile) today announced the installation of 115 charging stations at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston (IAH), Miami International Airport (MIA) and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD). With today’s additions, Samsung Mobile has installed charging stations in 10 of the nation’s busiest airports in the U.S., which are accessible to more than 395 million passengers annually.
“This is the largest number of charging stations Samsung Mobile has announced in one day,” said Bill Ogle, Chief Marketing Officer of Samsung Mobile. “With the holiday travel season just around the corner, we want the Samsung Mobile charging stations to reduce stress, keep families connected and provide a much-needed convenience to travelers trying to reach their loved ones.”
Four charging stations are currently installed at IAH, three located in the in the North and South Concourses of Terminal A, along with one station in Terminal D. By the end of the year, 40 stations will be installed at flight stations, shuttle stations and in Terminals A, C, D and E at IAH. Travelers at MIA can access 40 charging stations in each of the airport’s seven concourses and at pre-security areas throughout the MIA terminal. More than 35 charging stations are available at IAD to keep passengers powered up while on-the-go.
“One of our top priorities is to give each passenger the best customer service they could possibly get at Houston’s airports,” says Rob Wigington, Houston Airport System Deputy Director. “Providing electronic outlets for passengers to charge their gadgets while they’re on the go to Bush Intercontinental’s 105 domestic and nearly 70 international destinations will definitely be a plus for them.”
Samsung Mobile Charging Stations are outfitted with four outlets per station, allowing several travelers to re-charge their electronic devices at the same time for free. The stations are built to charge personal electronics designed for U.S. voltage (i.e., 120 volts), and are also equipped with a small shelf to hold travelers’ mobile phones and other electronic equipment. Dominion Virginia Power, Reliant Energy in Houston and Florida Power and Light will provide electricity for charging stations at each airport.
“We are very excited about the decision of Samsung Mobile to brand charging stations at Miami International Airport,” said Miguel Southwell, Deputy Director of Business Retention and Development for the Miami-Dade Aviation Department. “This decision comes at just the right time. Miami International Airport was looking to enhance its customer service by providing charging stations to passengers at no cost and Samsung Mobile, through JCDecaux Airport, Inc., agreed to be the sponsor. We hope this is the beginning of a long relationship with such a prestigious company as Samsung Mobile.”
Samsung Mobile has installed charging stations at some of the nation’s largest airports, including 54 stations at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), 51 stations at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), 50 stations at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), 22 stations at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP), 18 stations at Orlando International Airport (MCO), 12 stations at LaGuardia Airport (LGA), along with eight Samsung Mobile Travel Centers at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW).
“The early commitment and vision from Samsung Mobile has paved the way for one of the most unique and engaging branding experiences in U.S. airport history,” said Jean-Luc Decaux, Co-CEO of JCDecaux NA.
