ABBYY Lingvo Dictionary Software and Business Card Recognition Application Enable Users of Samsung WiTu (SGH-i900) to Enhance Business Communications FREMONT, Calif., Sept. 10
FREMONT, Calif., Sept. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- ABBYY Russia and Samsung today
announced that they have expanded their partnership to integrate two
applications, the ABBYY Lingvo dictionary software and business card
recognition (BCR) application, into the new Samsung WiTu (SGH-i900)
smartphone. The integration will enable users of the Samsung WiTu to scan and
deposit business card information directly into their telephone address books,
as well as rely on ABBYY's expansive Russian-English/English-Russian
dictionary while on the go.
The mobile version of ABBYY Lingvo dictionary software contains over
50,000 entries in its English-Russian dictionary and 15,000 entries in its
Russian-English dictionary. Samsung WiTu users can additionally download, at
no cost, extended versions of the English-Russian and Russian-English general
dictionaries, audio pronunciations of 15,000 common English words, a
monolingual Russian dictionary and a thesaurus of Russian business terms.
ABBYY Lingvo also includes Lingvo Tutor, a flash-card application for
memorizing new words quickly and efficiently.
The BCR application, developed by ABBYY's Korean partner DIOTEK using the
ABBYY Mobile OCR SDK, allows Samsung WiTu users to quickly capture business
card content using the phone's built-in digital camera and accurately transfer
the contact information from the image directly into the telephone address
book. Using the application, users can capture contact information in 12
different languages and also add pictures to specific contacts.
"We are working closely with the leading mobile device manufacturers in
the market to actively expand our line of innovative mobile solutions," said
Olga Tolstunova, deputy director of ABBYY's Mobile Solutions Department. "The
addition of the ABBYY Lingvo dictionary and BCR technologies to the Samsung
WiTu smartphone is yet another indication that mobile business applications
have become an essential part of modern mobile devices."
This is the fourth joint integration project for ABBYY Russia and Samsung.
The ABBYY Lingvo dictionary software was pre-installed on Samsung DuoS mobile
phones and the complete line of Samsung notebook computers available in
Russia. The two companies have also collaborated to equip several Samsung
mobile phone models in Europe and Indonesia with the ABBYY BCR technology.
The Samsung WiTu features an interface designed specifically with
touch-screen navigation in mind, and showcases a 3.2-inch 240.400-pixel
screen. Powered by Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, the WiTu is also equipped
with a 5-megapixel camera, WiFi and Bluetooth, a GPS module, a TV-Out
connector and a large number of video codecs including DivX and Xvid.
