BALTIMORE - (Business Wire) SafeNet, Inc., a global leader in information security, today announced the availability of its SafeEnterprise Conversion Encryptor (SCE), the worlds only encryptor designed to secure Ethernet LAN PHY traffic over SONET/SDH networks at 10Gbps (OC192) speed.

Companies running 10 Gbps Ethernet LANs face challenges when transporting encrypted data between sites via carrier or private lines because 10 Gbps Ethernet often is not available from the carrier. SONET is the best alternative for high-speed networking, but the SONET network requires costly bridges to convert from 10 Gbps Ethernet LAN to SONET.

The SCE is a single security solution that eliminates bridging costs by integrating from lower cost Ethernet LAN network into the SONET network architecture, said Andy Solterbeck, SafeNets chief technology officer. With the SCE, companies will greatly improve network operations and performance without compromising security. There is no other conversion encryptor like it on the market.

With the SCE, companies looking to utilize dark fiber can combine the advantage of Ethernet simplicity with the robustness and distances of SONET transport. The SCE integrates seamlessly into any 10Gbps SONET network. It comes in a four rack unit high chassis with redundant 100 to 240 auto sensing AC power supplies and the flexibility of 10 Gbps small form-factor pluggable transceivers. The SCE also meets required regulatory standards.

Another advantage of the SCE is its ability to be remotely managed using SafeNets SafeEnterprise Security Management Center (SMC). SMC allows network administrators to centrally manage SafeNets entire family of network encryptors from a single console, helping companies to not only lower management costs but also to easily produce a data security audit trail to meet auditing requirements.

The SCE supports the highly secure, federally endorsed AES algorithm for protecting Ethernet LAN network traffic over the 10 Gbps SONET network. Its industry-standard physical security provides tamper-proof storage of encryption keys and user passwords, and features tamper evident construction.
