PHILADELPHIA - (Business Wire) Rohm and Haas selected Asha Banks, a sophomore chemical engineering major, as the recipient of the 2008
Rohm and Haas Minority Scholars at Drexel University scholarship. The $10,000 award is provided to one chemical or mechanical engineering student each year who exhibits superior academic achievement as well as honesty and integrity.
Banks, a Harrisburg, Pa. native, has maintained her high academic standing while participating in many extra-curricular activities such as the National Society for Black Engineers and the student chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineering. Banks volunteers for Scholars in Service to Pennsylvania and enjoys singing with her gospel choir.
The Rohm and Haas Minority Scholars Program at Drexel University launched in 2003 recognizes potential and rewards the achievements of minority students. Through their partnership, Rohm and Haas and Drexel University to encourage and increase the number of minority students who enter the fields of chemical or mechanical engineering. In addition to the $10,000 award, which is spread throughout the balance of the selected student’s term, Rohm and Haas provides the student with an opportunity to work as a co-op at one of Rohm and Haas’s locations as well as an employee mentor to assist in furthering their goals.
