AUSTIN, Texas - (Business Wire) ResearchPoint, a full-service, CRO serving the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device industries, is pleased to announce organizational changes and the promotion of Sally Wilging, MSN, CCRA to Associate Director, Clinical Management.
“ResearchPoint has committed resources to create a distinct Clinical Management group within the organization,” notes Bob Davis, Chief Operations Officer. “Not only will this better serve our sponsors and investigative sites with improved communications, continuity and transparency, but it also creates a new career track for those in clinical operations. Ultimately our goals are to offer superior service for clients and sites, provide growth opportunities for our people and retain our talent. Sally Wilging is the perfect person to lead this new group.”
Ms. Wilging joined ResearchPoint in 2000, and brings a wealth of clinical operations expertise. At ResearchPoint, she has held positions of increasing responsibility from Clinical Research Associate I, II, III to Safety Coordinator and Senior Clinical Manager. Prior to joining ResearchPoint, Ms. Wilging was a Project Manager at the University of Texas School of Nursing, Clinical Research Nurse for Scirex Corporation, and Research Associate and Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Texas, in Austin.
The new Clinical Management role complements ResearchPoint’s strong project management approach, and frees the Project Manager to concentrate more rigorously on study management details and superior service and access for customers. Clinical Managers are intimately involved in a variety of ongoing studies; however, the focus of this arrangement is to align the goals and requirements of the studies with the best possible match of CRAs and data technicians, and also allows personal growth and development of the assigned team member. When a new CRA or data technician joins ResearchPoint, each is assigned to a Clinical Manager who mentors and manages them throughout their tenure at ResearchPoint.
Sally Wilging states, “As part of this new role, Clinical Managers handle the resources and have formal oversight for managing clinical activities on projects. They take the pressure off Project Managers by mentoring less-seasoned professionals and provide ongoing, on-the-job training of CRAs and data quality technicians (DQTs). This model allows consistency and cross-training; so all members of the team are performing to the highest standards and expectations. The goal is to have better prepared CRAs and DQTs that are allowed to enjoy the essence of their jobs, without feeling pushed into other roles until they are ready and able. Ultimately our CRAs become better site managers, ones that ensure compliance, nurture the necessary high-level PI involvement and proactively implement corrective actions.”
ResearchPoint Executive Vice President of Business Development and Marketing, Matt Walker comments, “The Clinical Management function was created not only to develop and retain our people, but also to better serve our clients through consistent and thorough monitoring, creative problem-solving, and support for the study sites. The intent is to keep high functioning teams together as much as possible and minimize bouncing staff from manager to manager. This allows CRAs and DQTs to have more continuity and access to hands-on management and is a win-win for clients, investigators, study volunteers and team members.”
