DUBLIN - (Business Wire) Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/85ab2a/bar_code_printers) has announced the addition of the "Bar Code Printers Volume 3C: Bar Code Printers, Asia-Pacific" report to their offering.

RESEARCH OVERVIEW:

Pages: 127 Exhibits: 37 Profiled Companies: 0 Primary Sources/Telephone Sample Size: 15 Market Forecast Coverage: 2007-2012 Regional Market Coverage: Asia-Pacific

DETAILED OVERVIEW:

VDC Research Group's 2008 Global AIDC Industry Business Planning Service ("The AIDC Service") is a continuation and expansion of research initiated in 1986 with the publication of VDC's first AIDC market analysis: The Market for Bar Code Products - A Strategic Analysis. The AIDC Service includes four distinct volumes - each covering an AIDC technology. Within each volume, VDC provides separate chapters analyzing the three regional markets.

The technologies covered include:

  • Handheld Bar Code Scanners
  • Stationary Bar Code Scanners
  • Bar Code Printers; and
  • Bar Code Printer Consumables

Within each volume, VDC provides separate chapters analyzing the three regional markets.

This volume (Volume 3C) of the 2008 Global AIDC Industry Business Planning Service includes coverage of the Asia-Pacific market for bar code printers.

Consolidation continues to reshape the bar code printer supplier landscape. Recent M&A activity such as Avery Dennison's purchase of Paxar, SATO's acquisition of Checkpoint's printer unit, Vector Capital's purchase of Printronix, and Toshiba TEC's acquisition of the Auto ID division of Ricoh has continued to create an environment in which there are an increasingly fewer number of suppliers with greater market clout.

Bar code printers continue to become more commoditized. As printer prices decrease and overall functionality and performance increases, it is becoming increasingly difficult for suppliers within the Americas and EMEA regions to compete with low-cost Asian manufacturers.

In order to compensate for widespread commoditization, bar code printer suppliers are beginning to diversify their product portfolios beyond hardware sales by offering software and supporting services as a way to add more value to their end users while increasing revenue potential.

Although maybe not a near-term threat, the number of technologies poised to compete with bar code printing continues to increase. Emerging technological threats include: direct part marking, electronic shelf labels, mobile bar coding, RFID, electronic paper and other display technology, and smart packaging - amongst others.

"Although the longer-term growth potential in the bar code printer market will be limited by these factors, there are still areas of solid growth where bar code printers can, and will, thrive in the near to mid term such as mobile printing, hybrid devices, and RFID," cites Kevin M. Permenter, AIDC Analyst at VDC Research Group. "Sustaining growth in a market with rapid commoditization, a shrinking competitive landscape, and a growing number of competitive technologies is the task before today's printer hardware companies. Now more than ever it is important to align innovation efforts with high growth areas and focus product design efforts on the rapidly changing end-user requirements and preferences."
