The artist, Jan Janas, who is well-known as a textile artist, is teaching silk painting art classes at the San Diego Art Department on Ray St in North Park, San Diego. An introductory art class was held Sunday, October 19, 2008 and classes begin on Thursday, October 30, 2008. Jan is a firm believer in art education for all ages. She has been involved in art education at all levels for her entire career as well as producing works for musuems and galleries nationwide.
Jan Janas has a degree in art education with continuing art classes taken at the University of New Mexico and the Chicago Art Institute. Her works have been purchased by many private and corporate entities. She has participated in juried museum shows, solo shows, and has co-authored and published 3 books on silk painting. Janas is also well known for her silk painting work and teaches adult art classes throughout the United States. Janas has recently moved to San Diego, CA.
Janas commented, “I am excited to teach at the San Diego Art Department and become part of the textile art community here in Southern CA.” Jan has family in San Diego and has been visiting here for many years prior to this move. One of her favorite spots for plein air painting is in Balboa Park. Look for her there!
Andrea Chamberlin is the Director of Education for the San Diego Art Institute (www.sandiego-art.org) located in Balboa Park and the San Diego Art Department and is responsible for Janas joining the Art Department team.
