PITTSBURGH, PA -- 12/02/08 --
RE2, Inc., a leading developer of
intelligent modular manipulation systems, announced today that it was named
a 2008 Army Small Business Innovation Research Achievement Award winner.
RE2 was selected based on the Company's Small Robot Toolkit (SRT) Phase II
Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program and innovation provided
to the U.S. Army Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering
Center (TARDEC).
RE2 was one of ten companies selected out of a field of more than 755 Phase
II SBIR performers. Eligible companies were evaluated based on four
criteria: originality and innovation of research; relevance of the research
to the Army mission; immediate commercialization potential of the research,
reflecting the primary goal of bringing technology and products to the
marketplace; and overall quality performance of the project.
RE2 was chosen based on the success and commercialization potential of its
SRT Phase II SBIR. The SRT is a plug-n-play, interoperable robotic
manipulator arm with interchangeable end-effector tools. The SRT provides
the ability to quickly swap tools in the field, which greatly expands the
functionality of existing robot platforms, improves mission efficiency, and
reduces time-on-target for dangerous operations.
"It is an honor to have been selected to receive the Army SBIR Achievement
Award in a year when so many companies are developing innovative and
worthwhile technologies for our Soldiers," states Jorgen Pedersen,
president and CEO of RE2, Inc. "This award is further evidence that the
Army recognizes the value and importance of intelligent modular
manipulation systems for fielded and next-generation robots."
