ORLANDO, Fla. - (Business Wire) Raydiance, Inc., developer of the worlds first compact, cost-effective and fully software-controlled ultrashort pulse (USP) laser platform, today announced that it has demonstrated the highest pulse energy ever achieved in a fiber laser at the eye-safe wavelength of 1552 nanometers. The milestone was reached as part of a multi-million dollar research and development contract with the U.S. Department of the Navy.

Under the Navy program, Raydiance has designed and demonstrated a USP laser that generates 56 microjoules per pulse with pulses 700 femtoseconds long, a world record (a femtosecond is one billionth of one millionth of a second). The peak power generated by the laser was approximately 80 megawatts.

Although our Raydiance Discovery platform has been in the market for just a year, it is already being used by numerous customers to develop innovative surgical tools, applications in genomics, homeland security applications and advanced manufacturing solutions, said Scott Davison, Raydiance president. With the Navys support, we have demonstrated how this practical commercial architecture scales to much higher power. This is an important milestone not only for the country, but also for our commercial clients who will be able to take advantage of this enhanced power to explore new markets for USP applications.

Traditional USP systems have been extremely expensive, very large and usable only in controlled laboratory environments. Raydiance has developed a next-generation laser that integrates computing and software control to create a reliable, versatile and easy to use device that is the worlds first practical USP platform the Raydiance Discovery Series.

About Raydiance, Inc.

Raydiance is a next-generation laser company that has integrated photonic, computing, and software technologies to create the worlds first broadly enabling laser platform.

Raydiances breakthrough technology brings intelligent control and small form factor to ultrashort pulse (USP) laser lightextremely brief and powerful light pulses capable of precisely vaporizing virtually any material without generating heat. By coupling software control and miniaturized hardware with its technology-as-a-service subscription model, Raydiance has made USP technology affordable, practical and easy to use for the development of revolutionary new applications spanning multiple industries.

Under the guidance of Raydiance founder Barry Schuler, former AOL Chairman and CEO, Raydiance has emerged as a fast-growth company and has taken an industry lead in building volume commercialization of this transformative technology. The Raydiance vision has been validated in the marketplace by early adopters across several application sectors, including cancer treatment, next-generation surgery, gene therapy, cosmetic applications, high value materials processing, nanotechnology, bioengineering, defense/security, and more.
