TUCSON, Ariz. - (Business Wire) Tucson Mayor Bob Walkup has proclaimed April 25, 2008, as Public Relations Appreciation Day to recognize and welcome the upcoming Public Relations Society of Americas Western District Conference, April 24-25 at JW Marriott Starr Pass.

The proclamation is as follows:

WHEREAS, Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), Southern Arizona Chapter is the premier local organization for the development of the public relations profession and professional; and

WHEREAS, The 22,000-member PRSA is the world's largest organization for public relations professionals; and

WHEREAS, the members represent business and industry, counseling firms, government, associations, hospitals, schools, professional service firms and not-for-profit organizations; and

WHEREAS, More than 100 chapters in 10 geographical districts provide opportunities to grow professionally, share ideas, practice skills and network with colleagues; and

WHEREAS, for more than 30 years PRSA's Southern Arizona chapter has promoted the practice of public relations in Tucson and Southern Arizona; and

WHEREAS, Local members benefit from monthly chapter meetings, professional development seminars, the chapter's Communiqué newsletter, and an extensive member directory of public relations practitioners in Southern Arizona; and

WHEREAS, The 2008 PRSA Western District Conference will be held April 24-25 at the JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort & Spa in Tucson. The conference is open to all PRSA members, PR and marketing professionals, business leaders, students and others interested in learning and developing strategic business communications skills and tactics.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert E. Walkup, Mayor of the City of Tucson, Arizona, do hereby proclaim April 25, 2008 to be

Public Relations Appreciation Day

in this community, and encourage all of our citizens to support, understand, and appreciate the intricacies of the practice of ethical public relations and public relations practitioners.

Hosted by the PRSA of Southern Arizona Chapter and themed Discovering New Frontiers in PR, the conference will explore pertinent topics including PR across geographic borders; PR and the world of social media; promoting global sporting events; reputation management; Hispanic media trends; and crisis management.
